Mission Statement
The International Game Fish Association is a not-for-profit organization committed to the conservation of game fish and the promotion of responsible, ethical angling practices through science, education, rule making and record keeping.
Core Job Description
The Museum Director will direct and oversee the International Fishing Hall of Fame and all its functions. This will include planning and executing any new or revolving exhibitions, maintaining the exhibition and loan records for the museum, overseeing the maintenance of the building and the exhibits, and acting as official host at museum functions. The Director will also develop and implement long and short range plans for attendance growth, exhibition growth, acquisitions and maintenance of museum components.
The Director will ensure IGFA’s mission is carried out, highlighted and passed on to the guests, through all museum programs, projects, and exhibits. The Museum Director will have the ability to interact with the diverse group of people that represents IGFA’s international membership of approximately 20,000. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of five to seven years of senior nonprofit management experience in a related industry, including a demonstrated success overseeing and managing a large facility and its many components.
Essential Functions / Areas of Responsibilities
* Act as museum liaison between IGFA, local media and the community; attend any local meetings and serve on any boards that would benefit the museum and IGFA
* Work with the COO and Director of Finance to create and manage annual budgets for each department within the Museum
* Assist in individual Museum department planning and daily activities to ensure that staff understand and implement IGFA mission, policies, and procedures
* Work with the local community, granting entities and the non-profit sector to seek funding for IGFA, the museum and its functions
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and ability to supervise people
* Plan, coordinate and execute all in-house special weekend museum events
Minimum Qualifications: For consideration, applicants should meet the following basic selection factors:
* A Bachelor’s degree is required while an advanced degree is preferred. Knowledge of Museum operations and non profit organizations is also preferred
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must
* Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
* Ability to travel and work some weekends
* Must be able to speak, read and write in English
* Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
* Experience interacting with the public in a proficient and positive manner
* Understand the world of fishing as well as the ability to comfortably speak about angling
