The IGFA Education team will be heading to Estes Park, Colorado to facilitate spin fishing clinics for the Fish & Feathers Intern Training Workshop in collaboration with Environment for the Americas. IGFA staff will also complete Level 1 teacher training for fly fishing education with the Roaring Fork Conservancy through the National Fishing in Schools curriculum. Lastly, a free, public fishing event will occur at Lake Estes with the IGFA, Environment for the Americas, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the EVICS Family Resources Center using the IGFA’s Passports to Fishing program. This trip will kick off 2024’s travels for our National Parks project, a project made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation.

The International Game Fish Association and Wild Oceans are pleased to announce the 7th International Billfish Symposium (IBS) will take place in San Diego, California USA on October 8-10th, 2024. As someone involved in billfish research and management, we would like to formally invite you and your colleagues/co-authors to join us for this important symposium that will highlight advances across all aspects of billfish science and management while examining evolving climate related impacts. The 7th IBS theme is, “Advancing Science and Management of Billfish in a Changing Ecosystem.”

Tommy Gifford Awards Ceremony

The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) announced its 2025 Tommy Gifford Award winners, an annually bestowed accolade that recognizes captains, guides, or crew members who have made extraordinary contributions to recreational angling through innovation, leadership, or outstanding accomplishments in their trade.

Named for one of the greatest saltwater charter skippers of all time, Tommy Gifford Award recipients are selected through a rigorous nomination and vetting process conducted by the IGFA Legendary Captains and Crew Committee.

This year’s recipients include Captain John Bayliss, Captain Billy Borer, Captain Barry Cross, Captain Paul Dixon, Captain Gene Grimes, and Captain Kevin Nakamaru. 

These industry legends will be honored later this year at the IGFA Tommy Gifford Awards Ceremony, taking place Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Additional event details will be released in the coming weeks.
