ANSA is the recognised peak national body for sportfishing throughout Australia and has been operational since 1967. ANSA consists of a network of branch associations across every Australian state which in turn have their own network of ANSA affiliated clubs. All told there are in excess of 200 fishing clubs affiliated with ANSA across Australia and an overall personal membership in excess of 3000. Bermagui Big Game Anglers Club is one of the oldest clubs in Australia. Known for its marlin and tuna fishing, Bermagui is situated on the far south coast of New South Wales where the edge of the Continental shelf is closest to the Australian coast. 1933 saw the first recorded marlin (202 lbs) caught. Word quickly spread and soon anglers were arriving. The most famous, Zane Grey, arrived and set up camp in 1934. In 1936 Bermagui Big Game Anglers Club was formed and billed as the "Headquarters of Big Game Fishing". Michael and Helen Lerner also spent time here working in their field laboratory, before the formation of IGFA.

The Gold Coast Game Fish Club Inc. was established in 1970. The GCGFC is not only Queensland's oldest incorporated Game Fish club but it is also currently Queensland's largest by both membership and tournament participation. Each year the club conducts an annual competition for its members, as well as hosting two (2) open tournaments, the pHenceit Light Tackle Masters in the month of January and our Cabo Yachts & Bruce Lynton Prestige Automotive Blue Marlin Classic in the month of April, where we principally target billfish. Our club is an affiliated member with the QGFA, GFAA and IGFA. Gold Coast anglers are very privileged for many reasons, not least of which is the fact that we have ready access to billfish all year round including arguably one of the best blue marlin fisheries in the world. Apart from billfish, there is a myriad of other game fish species on our doorstep.

The idea of a sport fishing club based in Waiuku was first considered when a meeting of interested people was held on Aug 23rd 1989 with 80 people attending. A steering committee was formed and the 1st general meeting was held on 20th Sept 1989 to formally launch the club which was then named the West Coast S.F.C. The aims of the club were to promote safety awareness on the West Coast, Manukau Harbour and Waikato River bars. To promote conservation and friendly competition and to keep members informed of the latest techniques and happenings in the fishing world. A name change came in June 1990 and the club was renamed 'Counties Sportfishing Club' as it is still known today.. On Nov 30th 1991 (after serving a years probation) the club was admitted to the NZSFC. In Dec 1992 the club purchased it's own V.H.F. Channel 5. The repeater equipment is set up on the Port Waikato Hills, giving us wide coverage. The club adopted minimum safety standards for all boats fishing off the West Coast and boats weighing in gamefish run the risk of disqualified fish if the boat doesn't comply. A high standard was reached at the first boat check day and has been kept up since. In Nov 1994 the club became a member of the I.G.F.A. and also the Pacific Ocean Research Foundation. The club boasts several NZ records, mainly sharks. 1999 had to be one of our best years with many anglers not only fishing the West Coast but also travelling the country to fish. 71 Billfish caught with 81% tagged; also 2 Wahoo (1 a NZ record) And 7 Y/fin. The club has grown steadily over the years, We currently have around 700 members. Events for the year One Base: 2nd - 5th Feb 2012 NZSFC Nationals: Last week feb, nationwide tournament ( This is only time we get to go head to head with all the other clubs around NZ ) The Fish'nchicks: March ( Ladies only open tournament ) Family day: March/April (aimed at kids, heavily subsidised comp $5 entry) Grunter Hunter: Gurnard only 17th June Ice Breaker: 7th & 8th July sat&sun. Doubtless Bay <http://g.co/maps/n8pqy> in the Far North of New Zealand covers almost 100 sq miles of reasonably sheltered waters and has an abundance of fish species and shellfish. Extending from Karikari Peninsula in the west to Berghans Point on the eastern side these inshore fish are accessible from either boat or land based and just outside the bay is a healthy Marlin fishing area less than 30 minutes from shore. The club was established in 1994 by a number of enthusiastic locals with assistance and guidance from the Whangaroa Sport Fishing Club who generously provided the first weigh station at Mangonui. The early days of the club saw a number of both privately owned launches and charter boats based in Mangonui however over the years these have declined and now the fishing is done predominately from trailer boats that have the luxury of launching from a variety of locations around the bay. With the support from Kieron Olsen of Reel Rods <http://www.reelrods.co.nz/> at his premises on Inland Rd, Rangiputa, a new weigh station has been established for the use of DBSFC. Another valued supporter of ours, Taipa Tavern, have kindly offered us the use of their location to display all of our trophies. If you want to take a look at them, head over to the Taipa Tavern. The club continues to run 4 fishing contests during the year has a total of 3 weigh stations in the area and affiliation to NZ Sport Fishing.

The Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club has its club rooms at the entrance to the Inner Harbour in Napier which is on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Most of the year members fish for bottom-dwelling species (snapper, blue cod, grouper) with pelagic species (striped marlin, tuna) only entering the bay from mid-January to April. We have an abundance at that time time of albacore, skipjack tuna, yellowtail kingfish. The Hokianga Harbour is just a 3 hour drive North from Auckland up through the Waipoua Forest and on the West Coast. The twin settlement of Omapere and Opononi are located just inside the entrance, with our club base being at the Omapere Copthorne Hotel and Resort Hokianga which is situated right on the waterfront. The Club was first formed in 1993 and was initially affiliated to the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club. It became an Incoroprated Club in December 1997, since which time the membership has been on a steady increase, and now boasts to having 312 members. There are two boat ramps in the area, both of which are easily accessed. It's less than 10 minutes from launching your boat to being across the Hokianga Bar which at times can be extremely dangerous so if you are unfamiliar with this contact the 'Omapere Base' ( channel 82 ) and they will be able to assist you. Once outside you will find many species of fish and have the opportunity to experience some great fishing with Marlin becoming more and more popular and bringing great results in recent years. Mangawhai is situated 1 1/2 hours north of the harbour bridge and less than an hour south of Whangarei on the east coast. The Club was first formed in 1946 and has an average membership of 250 members a year. We are a community based familiy fishing and boating club, fishing both on the east and west coast in close proximity to Mangawhai. As a member of the NZ Sport Fishing Council Inc our fishing targets most of gamefish found in our water; striped, blue and black marlin, broadbill swordfish, short billed spearfish, yellowfin tuna, and sport fish being snapper, kahawai, yellowtail, king trevalley and hapuka. The harbour offers 2 boat ramps for easy lauching and sufficient parking for trailers. Within 30 minutes you can be in the most wonderful fishing spots, including great coastal spots and the famous Hen & Chicken Islands, not to mention Sail Rock. Add another hour and you will reach the Mokohinau Islands, once you have crossed the 'Bar'. On a normal day, crossing is a breeze, but it is a bar and you do have to be aware of the dangers. If you have never been out of Mangawhai and need to know where the channel lies, contact the club or just ask any local, and we will show you the way. Subscriptions to the club are: : $50.00 Family (Parents & Children under 16 years @ 1st July) $30.00 Senior $ 15.00 Junior (Under 16 @ 1st July) $ 10.00 Midget (Under 10 @ 1st July) Includes affiliation to NZBGFC If you haven't been to Mangawahi, check out our club Website <http://www.mangawhaiheads.co.nz>

The New Zealand Landbased Gamefishing Club was formed in August 1985. The club became an incorporated society in June 1991 and was admitted as a member of the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council (now the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council Inc) in July that same year. It is the only land based gamefishing club in New Zealand to have this affiliation, and because of this, IGFA rules are recognised as the standard for all sport fishing done by our members. The main target species for members include snapper, trevally, kahawai, kingfish and sharks. Tuna and marlin are also possible targets for experienced LBGers, particularly with many using boats to gain access to remote locations. Members of our club have tagged large numbers of kingfish since the club's beginnings, and as keen conservators of this species, we foresee tag and release becoming more popular in the future. Members receive a newsletter every two months, which typically consists of capture reports, trip reports, news of club events, and comment on local/national issues which have the potential to impact on our activities. We hold two club tournaments each year - one in February/March, the other in August/September, with the preferred location for both being the Far North because of available facilities and the number of fishing options. Additionally, we run three or four club trips annually to locations such as East Cape, Coromandel, the Cavallis and Great Barrier Island, and from time to time some of our experts host tackle and technique sessions for members. The end of our financial year is 30 June, shortly after which, the club holds its AGM and prize giving. Most of all this is a very friendly fishing club. Anyone can join and have heaps of fun and enjoy a pastime that has become a national sport in its own right. Whether you are just starting out or you're a seasoned rock fishing pro, our club has something to offer. We look forward to welcoming you to our club!

We welcome all future members! The club was formed in 1999 by some of Raglan's keen fisherman and woman and caters for all fishing interests from game fishing to surf casting. We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the fisherman who fish the rugged West Coast off Raglan and our membership has grown to over 500. Members mostly fish out from Raglan but we recognize the fact that our members fish all around the country and we accept all fish caught and weighed within New Zealand waters. Our weigh station is situated at the rear of the Harbour View Hotel and weigh masters are only a phone or V.H.F. call away. Call (Raglan Sport Fishing) on channel 86. The club runs several very successful fishing tournaments each year. The Fish City Icebreaker in October/November. Manu Bay Fishing contest on Auckland Anniversary weekend and the Rollos' Mixed classic, which coincides with nationals, in February. We are a member of the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. This enables members to have access to courtesy weighing facilities and clubrooms in most coastal areas. We are also members of the I.G.F.A. and the New Zealand Recreational Fishing Council which ad-vocates for recreational fisherman for more fish in the water. So as a member of the Raglan Sport Fishing Club you will be supporting and improving the West Coast fishery and the environment affect-ing this catchment. The club has initiated several large pr-jects in the Raglan area. Namely the in-stallation of the floating pontoon down at the main wharf, the rebuilding of the Kopua Boat Ramp and the installation of the V.H.F. on Mount Karioi along with the ongoing upkeep of the Manu Bay Boat Ramp and break-water. As a club member you will receive regular newsletters and e-newsletters if you have this facility, this is all aimed at keeping you informed on club activities. We also supply you with a fishing update so you are able to catch some great fish. Our anglers regularly get bag limits of Snapper in the spring with several fish over 10kg. The Game Fishing season usually starts in mid January and runs through to April. Marlin can be caught as close as the 50m mark. The club prides itself on its Tag and Release both for Marlin and all other species within the tagging program, and with this supplies two free tags to each paid up member, these are replaced free of charge when the completed tag form is re-turned to the secretary. We endeavor to make the West Coast a safer place to be, and twice a year in conjunction with the Raglan Coast Guard, run a Bar Orientation day. This is an event to familiarize users with the Raglan Bar and its many seasonal changes. This event is a must for all regular and new users of this area. Club members are friendly and helpful so please, don't hesitate to ask them for help with the bar or weather conditions. So if you are interested, please fill in the membership form on the reverse and send to the address above and we will look forward to having you onboard.

The inaugural meeting of the WBSFC was held on the 21st of January, 1966. It came about after considerable discussion between residents and visitors to promote water safety and develop an interest for the recreational fishermen. Those present included Pat Burstal, Len Walker (chairman), Harry Dutton (Sec./Treasurer), Mick Sheridan, Bill Harding, Jim Walker and Jack Edlin. The first tournament held was on 27th December 1967, with Lottin Point and Waikawa Point being the boundaries. During 1969/1970 limited membership was gained to the NZ Big Game Fishing Council and a set of scales along with a gantry were put in place to cater for notable catches now being achieved. By 1973 full membership of the NZBGFC was gained. The following year saw the yellowfin tuna on the cape background adopted as the club logo, placed on shirts and ties to give the Club recognition outside the area. 1975 saw the First World Record, a 366.3 lb hammerhead shark caught by Fred Bailey. Today the club is very active and now has a membership of approximately 450. In 1989 a dozen or so of the local fishermen decided that there must be opportunities to fish for game fish in our local waters. Although they were initially treated with skepticism they soon discovered a world class mako shark and a prolific summer albacore fishery off the Wairarapa coast. The club became an Incorporated Society in September 1992 and was inducted into the International Game Fishing Association in 1993. The discovered fisheries led to the beginning of fishing tournaments held at Castlepoint. These tournaments have continued to bring anglers to the Wairarapa to experience the excitement that only game fishing can bring. The initial Sharkarama as run by the Lionesses has become the Wairarapa Sports Fishing Club's Superfish. The Tuna tournament continues and The Great Gurnard Hunt grows in popularity as a season starter. The Wairarapa Sports Fishing Club supports fisheries management and looking after our resource for future generations. The club purchased a property in early 1996 and finally after 14 years we have achieved the reality of our own club rooms at Castlepoint beach. This has enabled us to provide club members with bathroom facilities, a kitchen, somewhere to pitch a tent or plug in a caravan directly across the round from the beach.

History of the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club Our club was formed on 3 April 1958 in Carl Spender's garage as the Whangamata Boatmen's Association. In 1982 we obtained our own clubrooms and commenced the game fishing section. A short time later, we joined the IGFA as the Whangamata Boat & Game Fishing Club. The original Members were billed three pounds, 10 shillings to supply a pump for water at the wharf. This was in 1960 and the wharf was completed in 1962. We now have 5788 club members. History of the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club Objects of Association quote "To enable boatmen to approach and consult Thames County about all matters concerning boat owners and users re wharf and harbour facilities. Those who attended were: Doug Norman, Wally Findlater, Bunty Brown, Ben Thompson, Colin Patchell, Stan Death, Jim Ansell, Laurie Jameson, Roy Nicholls and Jack Tew" unquote. There were five apologies from Albie Deadman, Lex Aikman, Ben Morris, Si Bailey and Alex Dargan. Wally Findlater became Chairman until 14 May 1960 when Stan Death accepted nomination and was elected unanimously. The successive committees for several years wrote reams of letters to the Thames County Council trying to gain amenities such as fresh water on the wharf and lower landing built onto said wharf for ease of loading and unloading. Finally, Stan organised working bees and members of the club were levied Three pound Ten shillings ($7.00) each and under Stan's supervision we had a bore put down, supplied our own pump and laid the water onto the wharf. This was completed in 1960. Then after much more correspondence with the Thames Council re wharf lower landing, they supplied the timber and the club by way of working bees built the lower landing, this was completed in 1962. In June of 1960 the Committee changed the name from the Whangamata Boatmen's Association to the Whangamata Boat Club. In April of 1960 Lex Aikman (another of our life members) became Secretary, a position he held into the l970s. Then in September 1961 we became in Incorporated Society under the name of The Whangamata Boat Club Inc. During this time after more correspondence with the Marine Department the leading lights for entering the harbour and the wharf lights were installed in 1964. From this time on much discussion, planning and letter writing took place about sites and plans for a clubhouse and marina but our numbers were few, our finances small and our voice to the powers that be was barely audible. Three separate sets of plans were drawn up and three separate sites were granted subject to water rights and town planning consent etc. None of these became reality and our need was growing. It was during this time that game-fishing outriggers began to appear on more and more boats in the harbour, people were becoming more aware of the leisure and pleasure to be gained from game fishing which is available just outside our harbour entrance. As the years rolled by we started running a bi-monthly social which proved a huge success. Initially they were held in the R.S.A. hall and as the numbers grew we moved into the Buffs Hall and eventually into the Memorial Hall. Many will remember the social success of these functions. Our membership rose from 47 to 270. Through all these years each successive committee never lost sight of the need of having our own Clubhouse and in 1982 this became a reality. A game fishing section was formed within the club and by a Motion at a Special General Meeting changed our name to Whangamata Boat and Gamefishing Club Inc. This only happened with more meetings and correspondence with the Thames Coromandel District Council, the final result was that in 1985 with much hard work, all voluntary, we had a Clubhouse complex adjacent to the wharf which housed the Whangamata Boat & Game fishing Club, the Whangamata Marine Radio, the Whangamata Search and Rescue Organisation and the TCDC's Harbourmaster's Office. So to that small band of men who started this off in 1958 and held meetings in garages and private homes and bumped their heads against many brick walls in endeavours to achieve a goal we say "bless you and many, many thanks"

The club was founded in 1925 by Zane Grey and has remained the hub for game fishing off the east coast of Northland ever since. The clubroooms are on the waterfront of the Whangaroa Harbour, giving easy access to some spectacular sight and fishing within the harbour and along the coast. We are adjacent to a marina with nearby parking, boat ramps, a hotel and motels for you to come enjoy the busy fishing scene with us. We are a family friendly club so come and see the awesome fish mounts and history in the clubrooms, listen to the fishing stories, and enjoy a beautiful meal in the cafe.
