Organization debuts improved search functionality of world record fish database

April 13, 2023

The IGFA has announced the launch of new and improved search functionality for their online world record database, making it easier than ever before for recreational anglers, fishing enthusiasts and researchers to access information on record catches.

The streamlined search functionality allows users a more intuitive way to search the comprehensive IGFA World Record Database, allowing them to search for records by the common or scientific name of the fish, the angler’s name, or the country in which the catch was made all from a single search bar. Advanced search functionality is also available for users who want to apply multiple filters at once or search IGFA World Records by category or status. The site now also allows users to produce a PDF of specific record pages for easy storage and research.

"The IGFA is committed to maintaining all recreational angling world records and providing access to this information to our members and the general public," said IGFA President Jason Schratwieser. "After listening to feedback from our users, we are thrilled to launch this improved IGFA World Record search engine."

In addition to the simplified search functionality, anglers can now find IGFA World Records, Angling Rules and more while on the go inside the user-friendly FishAngler mobile app, the number one free fishing app available on both Apple and Android platforms. In addition to hosting IGFA World Records, FishAngler facilitates crowd-sourced data from an international community of recreational anglers dedicated to sharing fishing knowledge, education and experience across regions and generations. This integration provides users with ease of access to IGFA World Records, IGFA Angling Rules and the ability to submit an IGFA World Record all with the tap of a button.

The IGFA has been maintaining recreational angling World Records since 1939, which are published each year in the IGFA World Record Game Fishes book and distributed to IGFA members worldwide in addition to being available online.
