Casting with a Legend One Auction Winner's Day with "The SeaHunter"
During last year's 40th annual International Auction, IGFA Captain Rob Fordyce generously donated a trip that would be filmed and premiered as an episode of his hit TV show, "The SeaHunter". Past guests have included leaders in the sportfishing industry like Flip Pallot, Chico Fernandez, Captain Paul Tejera, Captain Craig Brewer, Captain David Mangum, and more. This incredible trip recently aired on the Outdoor Channel, World Fishing Network, MyOutdoorTV, and "The SeaHunter" YouTube channel. We are happy to share it in the "International Angler".
Growing up in South Florida, Rob Fordyce developed an affinity for fishing at a very young age. As he grew, his love for the sport deepened, and he spent endless hours fishing and hungered for every bit of knowledge that he could find. It was during these formative years that he discovered the IGFA. Learning about the IGFA's rules and record-keeping history shaped his outlook and approach to fishing for years to come. Eventually, he would meet legends such as Flip Pallot and Al Pflueger Jr., who would become both mentors and friends. At just 17 years old, he made history as the youngest winner of the “Met Master Angler” award, at the time, one of the most prestigious and difficult tournaments in all of angling.
Fast forward to today, Captain Rob Fordyce has been a professional fishing guide, TV host, and athlete for over 30 years, spending 250 days a year on the water. He’s ranked among the world's top 50 fishing captains and is the most decorated tarpon tournament guide ever, with more than 60 podium finishes, and is the first to win all four major fly tarpon tournaments. He has succeeded in both offshore and inshore endeavors; there are few guides more experienced and capable than Rob Fordyce. His TV show, "The Seahunter", is watched by over 5 million people annually and is now in its tenth season. In addition to his television series and guiding, Rob also works with Project Healing Waters, teaching veterans to fly fish and helping them heal through nature and connection.
"Because the IGFA means so much to the world of fishing, I've always been a big supporter of the organization. In recent years, I've donated many trips."

"I bid on this once-in-a-lifetime experience not just to fish with the legendary Rob Fordyce, but because I believe in supporting the IGFA's mission. As someone who values tradition, I know the IGFA is the guardian of our sport and the keeper of our angling heritage. When you bid at an IGFA auction, you're not just purchasing an amazing opportunity—you're directly funding the work that preserves the traditions and standards that make sportfishing what it is today. That's worth investing in."
-Les Carter, IGFA International Auction winner
As a non-profit organization, the IGFA relies on the generosity and support of anglers and businesses worldwide; the annual International Auction is the IGFA’s most important and largest fundraiser. This spectacular event isn’t just about winning bids—it’s about supporting the IGFA’s vital work in game fish conservation and youth angling education. Every bid placed helps ensure the future of our beloved sport for generations to come.
At this year's 41st auction, which took place on January 25, 2025, we made history, raising an unprecedented $925,000 that will directly fuel IGFA's vital conservation and education initiatives worldwide.
Les Carter's incredible day with Captain Fordyce perfectly illustrates why the IGFA International Auction has become a must-attend event for serious anglers. At our 42nd Annual IGFA International Auction on January 24, 2026, at The Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale, we'll once again offer exclusive access to legendary guides, remote destinations, and experiences you simply cannot purchase anywhere else. Whether it's a day in the Everglades with a world-renowned captain or an expedition to pristine waters few have ever fished, these opportunities exist only through our auction, and every bid directly supports the future of sportfishing.
