John Marshall Shields Jr. was fishing off Dauphin Island, Alabama on March 7, 2023, when he landed this 45-centimeter sheepshead. With this fish he could potentially set the newly-opened IGFA All-Tackle Length Junior World Record for the species. The young angler was fishing with shrimp when the sheepshead struck. After recording the length on his Official IGFA Measuring Device, the fish was released safely. This record is currently pending and under review.

🐟 Event Details: Kids ages 3 to 16 years learned the different station materials and fished from shore. They caught snappers, grunts, and even a needlefish! This was a great first event hosted in Cozumel Island, Mexico on March 5, 2023. ![]()

The IGFA Passports to Fishing program, supported by Guy Harvey Foundation, Fish Florida, and Mercury Marine, is a global angling education program for youth and beginner anglers with product support from Bass Pro Shops, Rapala, Plano Fishing, danco pliers and Zebco.
On July 2, 1961, Leo Barboza set the IGFA Men’s 10-kg (20 lb) Line Class World Record with this massive 52.16-kilogram (115-pound) wahoo. Leo was fishing with live scad off the South Shore of Bermuda and landed this record catch after a 23-minute fight. This incredible record was landed without a steel leader and has stood the test of time!
