Online Education Specialist

Description: The Online Education Specialist will primarily focus on the development of the IGFA’s online angling education resources through writing, visual, and audio content creation to enhance IGFA’s current youth angler education efforts, including fishing camps and clinics, habitat cleanups, and National Park events. They will also assist the Department in creating new initiatives that leverage the IGFA’s network of supporters and further spread the IGFA’s mission and vision to recreational anglers around the world.

This position will serve to develop and activate initiatives and projects that will: 1) promote ethical, conservation-minded angling practices on an international scale, 2) empower and activate IGFA’s international network of supporters, and 3) motivate and inspire participation in recreational angling amongst individuals of all ages.

This position requires strong knowledge of various fresh and saltwater fishing techniques and tackle, as well as excellent customer service skills, strong writing and verbal communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Experience with video filming and editing, or the ability to learn this trade, is required.

Description of Responsibilities:

Develop robust, internationally focused content in an online setting or platform that appeals to a broad demographic of anglers and promotes long-term retention, education and engagement.

Develop content for IGFA's various printed, online, and social platforms, as well as for external publications.

Assist team with other projects, as needed.

Help plan, organize, and facilitate IGFA education events, which may include national and international travel.

Educational Requirements:

• BS required, preferably in writing, visual, and audio content creation, environmental education, marine or freshwater science, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience. A background in video filming and editing is strongly desired.

 

Experience and Skills:

• Ability to create educational curriculum in logical formats for online access and physical replication as documents, audio, or visual materials

• Ability to take quality photos and video during educational events

• Knowledge and experience with video editing software.

• Knowledge and understanding of basic and advanced recreational fishing tackle and techniques

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the IGFA team, which may require working outdoors for extended periods of time

• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate programs and events and lead them when necessary

• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form, which will require speaking in front of groups

• Ability to interact with IGFA staff and constituents in a professional and positive manner

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

• Ability to travel domestically or internationally, work weekends, and withstand long periods outdoors and sometimes on a boat

• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English; bilingual in Spanish is desired but not required

• Ability to independently strategize and develop angler education programs and initiatives in support of the IGFA’s mission

• Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with donors and other organizations to further the Education Department initiatives
