Wright’s Spotted Seatrout

On March 23, 2023, Dr. Jay Wright landed this 4.82-kilogram (10-pound, 10-ounce) spotted seatrout to set the new IGFA Men’s 10-kg (20-lb) Tippet Class World Record for the species. Wright was fishing in Ponte Vedra, Florida, USA, with guide Matt Chipperfield when this massive “gator” seatrout struck his baitfish imitation fly. After recording the weight on his IGFA certified scale and properly documenting the catch, Wright released the record trout safely.

Harris’ Smallmouth Bass

On March 30, 2023, Sarah Harris landed this beautiful 53-centimeter smallmouth bass while fishing the Colorado River in Arizona, USA, which ties the current IGFA All-Tackle Length World Record for the species. The record smallie struck a topwater lure at night and was landed after a short fight. Sarah then recorded the length on her Official IGFA Measuring Device and snapped some photos before releasing the fish safely. Sarah’s bass ties William Brent Evans’ 53-cm record smallmouth from 2014 along with Shane Hoelzle’s caught in 2020.

Grasso’s Kawakawa

Junior angler Max Grasso was fishing out of Dampier, Australia, on April 1, 2023, when he landed this impressive kawakawa to set the new IGFA All-Tackle Length Junior World Record for the species. Grasso’s fish measured out at 77 centimeters on his Official IGFA Measuring Device and was safely released after Grasso recorded the length measurement and snapped a few photos.

Davis’ Pacific Bonefish

Dr. Tara Davis was fishing the flats of Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, on April 1, 2023, when she landed this 4.51-kilogram (9-pounds, 15-ounce) Pacific bonefish, setting the new IGFA Women’s 4-kg (8-lb) Line Class World Record for the species. The record bonefish struck a live crab and was landed after a short fight. Tara then recorded an official weight on her certified scale before releasing the fish safely. Davis’ bonefish retires Shari Young’s impressive 3.29-kilogram (7-pound, 4-ounce) Pacific bonefish that was caught on February 20, 2023.

Clare’s Orinoco Peacock

IGFA Representative Horacio Clare landed this beautiful 5.03-kilogram (11-pound, 1-ounce) Orinoco peacock on March 20, 2023, while fishing the Rio Mataven in Colombia. Clare tricked the fish into eating a Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow, and after a quick fight, Horacio landed the new IGFA Men’s 10-kg (20- lb) Line Class World Record for the species. After recording the weight on his certified scale and properly documenting the catch, Clare safely released the record peacock back into the river.
