Strike Footwear | The Official Footwear of the IGFA
A newcomer to the fishing world has plans to make a big impact in the world of saltwater footwear.
The Strike brand has been born of the impressive pedigree of Overland Shoes, based in London, England. With three generations of craftsmanship under its belt, Overland is has made a name for themselves by delivering high-quality, innovative and stylish footwear, including ranges of shoes under license for some of the world's biggest and most well known fashion brands.
Lifelong angler Stephen Palmer, the owner of Overland Shoes, now sets his sights on the fishing industry, this is thanks in part to both his love for angling and also by his concerns for the future of marine environments.
Overland is not the first to introduce a line of saltwater-focused footwear, however, the challenge lies in creating eco-friendly materials that would not compromise the functionality of the shoes. After many years of research and testing, the Strike brand from Overland Shoes is now ready for launch, beginning in December at ISPO Munich, the world’s biggest trade show for the sports industry.
At ISPO, Strike will unveil its very first line of highly-functional, stylish and environmentally conscious shoes for saltwater anglers. Not only are they bringing a new shoe line to market, they are also set to announce an official partnership with the IGFA, which will see a percentage of all profits from purchases of said shoes donated towards IGFA’s ocean science and marine conservation programs.
“Since my childhood in South Africa, I have enjoyed a passion for fishing. I have fished throughout my life and all over the world, so I understand that a healthy ocean is how we ensure that future generations can share in these same passions." - Overland Owner, Stephen Palmer
Palmer continued,
“I have made particularly strong friendships with the local fishing community in Sardinia, and that is where the idea of Strike was conceived. It’s a brand that connects my passion for fishing, my expertise as a shoemaker and the ambition we should all share for a healthier ocean. The partnership with IGFA demonstrates our commitment to healthier oceans.”
Strike certainly practices what they preach, aside from working closely with a world leader in conservation, there are the actual materials and standards that set their footwear apart. Strike shoes incorporate SEAQUAL® YARN, a material created from upcycled marine plastic, and Solum™ bio-tread, made from recycled plant by-products, which breaks down to release nutrients back into marine and terrestrial environments, supporting ecosystems wherever anglers go.
The brand's commitment to sustainability is not just a marketing ploy, says Palmer, it is a core principle that defines every product.
A marriage of style and function, three standout features make this line a top performer in the saltwater space:
- Aqua Decksole: These soles help increase stability on wet and slippery surfaces, so you can focus on your catch not your footing.
- Stabilizer Chassis and Cleat Lacing: The chassis and cleat lacing secure balance, providing confidence whether you are on a rocking boat or navigating rocky shorelines.
- Bimini Upper and Aqua Gill: A combination of waterproof recycled leathers and the Aqua Gill filtration system for quick drying and comfort.
In preparation for ISPO next month, the brand is actively seeking distributors in the saltwater market who are conservation minded. Strike offers a partnership grounded in:
- Product Mastery: It leverages years of expertise in footwear manufacturing.
- Brand Mastery: You will align with a brand that values quality, innovation and sustainability.
- Commercial Acumen: Distributors benefit from a team dedicated to understanding market dynamics and consumer needs.
- Relentless Determination: Strike is committed to its mission and will support its partners every step of the way.
- Open Communication: Strike says it prioritizes listening to its partners to foster strong, collaborative relationships.
At ISPO, prepare to see five exciting variations of Strike's Ocean Made Footwear, including wellingtons, deck shoes, deck sneakers and flip flops. It is a range that ‘reflects the brand’s commitment to providing high-performance footwear tailored for the diverse needs of saltwater anglers,’ says Palmer.
The keystone of this new venture into the angling market is the product. The brand is confident in the quality and performance of their offering. Palmer echoes this, “There is a critical need for high-performance footwear designed specifically for anglers. The oceans demand footwear that respects and supports their ecosystems, and consumers are increasingly seeking products that align with their values."
