2024 IGFA Light Tackle Open Recap
The 2024 IGFA Light Tackle Open took place from January 31 – February 2, 2024, at the beautiful Sailfish Marina Resort in Palm Beach Shores, Florida – and what a tournament it was! Over the two days of fishing the 11-boat tournament fleet released a total of 88 sailfish all on 12-pound test, which is more fish released than all the previous four years of the tournament combined!
Team Good Call, captained by Eddie Twyford, ran away with First Place Team with a total of 23 sailfish releases over the course of the tournament, releasing 16 on the first day and seven on the second. Angler Burrel Frazier from Good Call took home First Place Angler with a total of 11 sailfish released during the tournament.
Taking the Second Place Team award with a total of 14 sailfish releases was team Catch and Reese, while angler Tim Richardson from Native Son took home the Second Place Angler with a total of five releases during the tournament.
Team Native Son took home the Third Place Team award with a total of 11 sailfish released during the tournament, and angler Rusty Jones from the Julia G took home the Third Place Angler award for the three sailfish he released during the tournament.
In addition to the incredible sailfish bite during the tournament, teams also enjoyed some hot fishing for dolphinfish, wahoo, and king mackerel. Team AKNOT took home two trophies for the weight fish category with angler Jimbo Samson recording a 19.8-pound dolphinfish, and angler Christian Tarallo weighing a 14.6-pound wahoo. Angler Hunter Craig on Caliban took home the trophy for biggest king mackerel with a 9.2-pound fish.
