IGMR Reaches 80,000 Milestone

70,843 nautical miles tracked to date

With 61 tags that were deployed during ten tagging events, the 2014-2015 is the largest Race Year to date!

So far, 28 of the 61 tags have popped up, bringing the total number of nautical miles recorded to 80,796! Currently leading the race is an estimated 453 kg (999 lb) black marlin tagged during the 2014 Lizard Island, Australia IGMR. However, with 25 tags left to report, it's still anyone's race!

In other exciting IGMR news, spearfish have been added to the race! IGFA chairman Paxson Offield sponsored tags that were deployed last month on four shortbill spearfish in Kona, Hawaii, USA. We look forward to seeing the first ever satellite tag data for this species.

Two tounaments will be kicking off the 2015-2016 Race Year! The 2015 Custom Shootout will be held in the Abaco Islands, Bahamas on May 13-16 and the 56th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament in Kona, Hawaii, USA will take place on August 10-14, 2015.
