Casting Your Legacy: Strategic Giving to the IGFA

Imagine that perfect cast, the moment when your line connects you to something greater than yourself. As passionate anglers and conservationists, the IGFA and you, our members, understand this profound connection between our sport and the natural world. For over 85 years, we've been the leading champion of game fish conservation, youth angling education, and recognition of outstanding achievements in our sport.

Just as selecting the right lure is crucial for a successful catch, choosing the right giving strategy can help you make a significant impact on the future of sportfishing while achieving your financial goals.

Consider these tax-advantaged options:

Bequest or Will Beneficiary Designation:

Name the IGFA as a beneficiary in your will or trust. This ensures that the IGFA will receive a portion of your estate upon your passing, providing a lasting legacy that supports our mission.

Account Beneficiary Designations:

Maintain control of your assets during your lifetime while supporting IGFA's long-term initiatives. Simply name us as a beneficiary of your retirement accounts, life insurance policies, bank or other financial accounts.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs):

Contribute now to a DAF for an immediate tax deduction, then recommend grants to IGFA over time. Already have a DAF? Let's discuss how you can support the IGFA programs most important to you.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs):

For those 70 ½ or older, you may be able to donate directly from your eligible IRA to the IGFA and receive tax benefits.

Appreciated Securities:

Avoid capital gains taxes by donating stocks or mutual funds that have increased in value.

By partnering with the IGFA through any of these giving methods, you're invited to join the prestigious IGFA Lerner Society. Named after Michael Lerner, the visionary angler who was instrumental in founding the IGFA in 1939, this society honors those who, like Lerner, fearlessly venture into new waters to secure the future of our sport.

Every individual's financial situation and philanthropic goals are unique, just as every angler's relationship with the sport is personal. The key is to find a strategy that aligns with your financial objectives while supporting the aspects of IGFA's vision and mission that resonate most with you.
