ANSA is the recognised peak national body for sportfishing throughout Australia and has been operational since 1967. ANSA consists of a network of branch associations across every Australian state which in turn have their own network of ANSA affiliated clubs. All told there are in excess of 200 fishing clubs affiliated with ANSA across Australia and an overall personal membership in excess of 3000. ANSA maintains a comprehensive Australia wide record chart which embraces line class, all tackle and length only records. The record chart caters for all kinds of fishing activity and techniques in both salt and freshwater and there are distinct records for junior and senior members. The ANSA record chart has a very strong and positive focus on capture and release fishing. ANSA also conducts its own national tagging programme (Austag) and actively participates in a variety of research and conservation projects in its own right and in partnership with a number of government agencies and research bodies. ANSA is a leading and vocal advocate for conservation of marine resources and the protection of fishing rights and entitlements. The ANSA code of ethics embraces "Sport - Conservation - Integrity" and our motto is to "Limit your catch - not catch your limit" More information on ANSA can be viewed at www.ansa.com.au ANSA Enquiries to: John Burgess PO Box 328 Telephone: 02 93113200 Matraville Mobile: 0408609586 NSW 2036 Australia Email: abtrap@yahoo.com.au

Bermagui Big Game Anglers Club is one of the oldest clubs in Australia. Known for its marlin and tuna fishing, Bermagui is situated on the far south coast of New South Wales where the edge of the Continental shelf is closest to the Australian coast. 1933 saw the first recorded marlin (202 lbs) caught. Word quickly spread and soon anglers were arriving. The most famous, Zane Grey, arrived and set up camp in 1934. In 1936 Bermagui Big Game Anglers Club was formed and billed as the "Headquarters of Big Game Fishing". Michael and Helen Lerner also spent time here working in their field laboratory, before the formation of IGFA.

The club runs the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic every October and the 29th Classic will be held October 17 to October 24, 2015. Every year "Granders" are tagged and released in this Tag & Release event. Also, every boat entered is provided with a PSAT Tag to enter the IGFA- IGMR funded by the Bertarelli and Teakle Foundations. Qualifying anglers have their name engraved on the perpetual trophy displayed in Lizard Island Lodge and receive a replica trophy and certificate sponsored by Peter Teakle. Since its inauguration in 2005, when our tournament changed to Tag & Release only, 16 anglers have qualified under strict conditions to be inducted into the unique club, including five from the 2009 event, with a further five pending from 2009. The Lizard Island Game Fish Club Black Marlin Classic is recognized as the World's Premier Heavy Tackle Black Marlin Tournament, with the unparalleled opportunity to catch the magic "GRANDER", fishing in the pristine waters of the Coral Sea along the famous Ribbon Reefs of the Great Barrier Reef in Far North Queensland, Australia. The club was established in 1985 and president Bob Lowe was a founding member. He has held the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic for 26 years which originally weighed fish (1000 lb minimum) until 2005 when it became tag & release only. In 2005 started the Lizard Island 1000 Pound Tag & Release Club, which now has 26 qualified members, including IGFA Trustee, Bob Rich. Seven Granders were released in the 26th Classsic in 2012. The Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic will hold the 32nd classic in 2018 from 13-20th of October. Recognized as the premier Heavy Tackle Black Marlin Tournament in the world, "Granders" are caught and tagged every year.
