Pin’s Giant Borneo Gourami

On October 22, 2023, NG Yam Pin was fishing in Putussibau, Indonesia, when he landed this beautiful 10.21-kilogram (22-pound, 8-ounce) giant Borneo gourami to set the new IGFA All-Tackle World Record for the species. Pin was working a crankbait when this colorful gourami struck, and after a quick fight, he was able to land, document, weigh-and-release the fish safely.

 

Mahon’s Striped Bass

Brody Mahon, age 15, landed this impressive 107-centimeter striped bass on December 28, 2023, to set the IGFA All-Tackle Length Junior World Record for the species. Brody was fishing the Chesapeake Bay with Griffin’s Guide Service out of Deale, Maryland, US, when this bass struck his lure. After landing the fish, Brody quickly secured a length measurement on his Official IGFA Measuring Device before releasing the fish safely. Brody’s fish tops the previous record by nine centimeters!

 

Forszpaniak’ s Milkfish

IGFA Representative Jan Forszpaniak recently traveled to Christmas Island, Kiribati, to pursue the multitude of inshore species available there. Taking advantage of the newly added records for milkfish, Jan returned home with several IGFA World Records for the species, including the new IGFA Men’s 10-kg (20-lb) Line Class World Record for a 5.67-kilogram (12-pound, 8-ounce) fish. Jan hooked the fish on cut bait and needed 15 minutes to land the hard-fighting milkfish before he was able to safely document, weigh, and release his catch.

 

Weston’s Smallmouth Buffalo

On December 17, 2023, Arthur Weston was fishing Lake LBJ in Austin, Texas, US, when he landed this 10.15-kilogram (22-pound, 6-ounce) smallmouth buffalo to set the new IGFA Men’s 2-kg (4-lb) Line Class World Record for the species. Art was fishing with Austin Anderson aboard his Buffalo Battleship when he landed this record fish. After recording the weight on his certified scale, Weston released the fish alive. 

 

Sherbovich’s Snubnose Pompano

On December 17, 2023, Ilya Sherbovich was fishing Poivre Island in the Seychelles when he landed this beautiful 61-centimeter snubnose pompano to set the new IGFA All-Tackle Length Fly World Record for the species. Ilya’s record pompano fell for an Alphlexo crab and was landed after a 15-minute fight. After recording the measurements on his Official IGFA Measuring Device he released the fish safely.
