IGFA Billfish Research and Conservation Endowment
Within Reach of Historic Goal
The future of billfish conservation and research is about to take a momentous leap forward. Thanks to the tremendous support of the recreational fishing community, the IGFA Billfish Research and Conservation Endowment stands just $50,000 away from reaching its initial $1,000,000 fundraising goal – an achievement that will be doubled through a generous matching gift commitment from IGFA Trustee Emeritus Tim Choate.
Anchored by an estimated planned gift of $1.3 million from IGFA Trustee Bob Kurz and IGFA Representative Sally Kurz, this fundraising campaign will help establish a $3.3 million permanent endowment dedicated exclusively to billfish conservation and research. It symbolizes the passionate commitment of anglers worldwide to protect these magnificent species that have fueled countless adventures on the water.
The impact will ripple across oceans, powering groundbreaking research, supporting critical studies on billfish biology, and strengthening our ability to advocate for better management practices worldwide. Most importantly, it ensures that future generations will continue to experience the thrill of watching a billfish launch skyward in a spectacular display of power and grace.
As we near this extraordinary goal, we celebrate every supporter who has helped bring us to this moment. From individual anglers to fishing clubs, tournament organizers, and conservation-minded businesses – this achievement belongs to our entire community. The endowment stands as a testament to what we can accomplish when we unite behind a shared vision of healthy billfish populations and sustainable recreational fisheries.
