The IGFA’s Grand Slam Clubs honor the outstanding accomplishment of catching a collection of different game fish species within a single day. A “Grand Slam” is defined by an individual angler catching at least three of the eligible species within a category per IGFA International Angling Rules. All catches must be made within one calendar day, and all past and present catches are eligible, provided they are properly documented. Bottensek’s Trout Royal Slam

Ryan Bottensek completed his IGFA Trout Royal Slam after seven years of pursuit. This remarkable achievement started in March 2018, when Ryan landed a bull trout in Lake Billy in Chinook, Oregon. Since then, he has caught the remaining six species, completing his IGFA Trout Royal Slam with a highly coveted golden trout in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California on August 31, 2025. Congratulations to Ryan for his perseverance and completing this great accomplishment.

An IGFA Royal Slam is defined by an individual angler catching each of the required species within a category per IGFA International Angling Rules. All past and present catches are eligible, provided they are properly documented.

The IGFA now differentiates IGFA Slam & Trophy Clubs caught on fly tackle versus those caught on conventional gear. To receive distinction for a Slam caught on fly tackle, all of the species must be caught on fly tackle according to IGFA Rules. Fly and conventional tackle Royal Slam Club members are displayed in the World Record Game Fishes book each year.

On August 2, 2025, Jason Foss was fishing with Captain Chris Adams in Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida, and had an incredible day of flats fishing. Jason landed a tarpon, Atlantic bonefish, and this impressive permit to earn an IGFA Inshore Grand Slam.
