SCHOOL OF SPORTFISHING
A very serious sport fishing school for very serious sport fishermen. Taught by top Southeast Florida captains, the School of Sportfishing teaches you the secrets the pros have learned from their lifetimes on the water. These are limited-capacity, hands-on classes which allow for intensive instruction and interaction with the captains. South Florida classes are taught weekly from 7:00pm to 10:00 pm at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum. Cost per class is $100 for members and $150 for non-members. There is a maximum of 24 participants per class. Other Adult Program Offerings
All programs below are two hours long, include museum entrance and equipment relevant to program. The cost is $20 per person (*except for the Drift Boat Excursion program). Each program requires a minimum of 20 participants; the maximum number is listed for each program. Larger groups can be accommodated with multiple programs. Fly or Jig Tying: This course includes the instruction on the basics of lure making. Each participant will have the opportunity to tie their own flies/jigs. This is a great program to compliment the fly fishing program. There is a maximum of 25 participants per group.
Fishing: This course includes instruction on the basics of fishing including ethical angling, tackle, and knot tying. Participants will learn about the most common fish found in South Florida and get a chance to catch the fish on our front ponds. There is a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 40 participants per group.
Fly Fishing: This class will teach you the art of fly fishing while learning to fly cast outside. Participants will also learn about the importance of matching rod to reel to line sizes along with “Matching the Hatch”. For those who want to become “experts” at fly casting, the Sage Fly Casting Analyzer is available to measure your cast. This program is a great compliment to the Fly or Jig Tying program. There is a maximum of 25 participants per group.
Team Building Casting: Any group looking for a fun, team-building activity can take advantage of an outdoor casting obstacle course. Participants will learn about the fundamentals of equipment and work together using what they’ve learned to use different types of rod and reel combos to cast at different targets.All group members must participate.
Guided Tour of the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum with Lecture:
This program begins with a half-hour lecture on one of the following topics:
* History of Fishing
* Fishing methods
* Salt or Fresh Water Fish
* Conservation
* Reefs and the Florida Keys
* Marine Ecology
* Topic of Your Choice
After the lecture, an instructor will provide a tour throughout the museum introducing the sport of fishing and pointing out the secrets of the different galleries highlighting fishing, fish biology, and fisheries conservation. There is a maximum of 40 participants per group.
Guided Wetlands Walk: This program will teach participants about the wonderful habitats that use to exist naturally throughout South Florida. They will also learn how human impact has harmed the ecosystem that once existed and learn to conserve what remains. There is a maximum of 40 participants per group.
Drift Boat Fishing Excursion: This course includes professional instruction on saltwater fishing in Southeast Florida. Participants will learn about the importance of various essential habitats found off our coast, identify common species, and practice catch and release techniques. This program includes transportation on an air-conditioned coach bus to Miami where we will board the Reward Fishing Fleet for a half day of fishing out on the Atlantic Ocean. There is a minimum of 40 participants and a maximum of 50 per group. The cost for this program is $100 per person (includes lunch) or $85 per person (without lunch).
