New Conservation Measures for Atlantic Marlin

At its recent annual meeting held in November, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) adopted measures aimed at rebuilding blue and white marlin stocks.  A rebuilding plan put into place in 2013 has been largely unsuccessful, as both blue and white marlin stocks continue- to be overfished and blue marlin continue to be experiencing overfishing. Lainey Jones Wins the 2019 IGFA Great Marlin Race

 The IGFA Great Marlin Race (IGMR), presented by Costa Sunglasses, is a partnership between the IGFA and Dr. Barbara Block’s lab at Stanford University. The 2019 IGMR officially concluded on September 30, 2019. When all was said and done, 19 tags reported a total of 17,926 miles of linear distance and logged 3,234 days of billfish migration and diving behavior. Read more here...

 

IGFA Great Marlin Race Update

For the fifth year in a row, the IGMR returned to the Bermuda Triple Crown Tournament, where four satellite tags were deployed on blue marlin.   The first tag deployed was sponsored by Frank Rodriguez aboard his 92-foot Viking, Fa-La-Me.  The tag was deployed on the healthy 200-pound blue by IGFA Conservation Director Jason Schratwieser.  Also present was Andrew Cox from Costa Sunglasses, the presenting sponsor of the IGMR, and videographer Cole Alcock, who joined the expedition to shoot a promotional video for the IGMR.  The video is forthcoming from our partners at Costa Sunglasses, so stay tuned.
